Statement
The intention of this series is to show different moods trough self-portraits and motion. Actually I´m in a phase of my life in which there is a lot of movement in different areas. Moods change constantly according to our experiences.
I have chosen to appear in these images because from the beginning, photography has been for me a means to express myself. It´s hard to explain but when I´m in front of the camera, I feel very comfortable and after I take the photographs, I feel relieved. I need to make self-portraits to externalize what I feel, in this case the subject matter is secondary. In this series I appear with a phantasmal effect since I believe that moods are ephemeral. In a single day we can experience a lot of moods for short periods of time. I appear several times in each image in order to represent different emotions in the same frame. For example in Self-portrait II (second image), I appear twice and these appearances are opposite: presence-absence. In Self-portrait IV (fourth image), I appear three times to show some kind of humor and playful mood. I´m using depictive, illustrative and expressive subject since I´m depicting a person through a lapse of time or action to create different and varied visual metaphors. This series have a balance between linguistic and medium-based concept since I´m making a statement through formal elements such as planes, shapes, colors, lines and textures.
I expect the viewer to recognize himself/herself through one of the moods that I´m capturing. I believe that moods are universal and I hope that some of you can match with some of these scenes.
